Talia DeRogatis is an Associate Clinical Social Worker from Southern California who loves working with others to find healing. She received her BA from Wesleyan University and her MSW from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College in New York City. After over a decade on the East Coast, Talia has returned to Los Angeles with a deeper understanding of the major changes we must undergo on the path to becoming our fullest selves.
As a white Latina lesbian with Mexican and Italian roots, Talia’s journey to owning every part of her identity has inspired her to support others in doing the same. She is passionate about supporting teens and adults with identity exploration, relationship challenges, self-esteem, and life transitions. Like many LGBTQ and multi-ethnic folks, she has firsthand experience with the shame and self-doubt that comes from growing up in families, communities, and societies that do not understand or support your wholeness. Therapy has helped her work through these challenges and walk toward a more authentic and aligned existence. A strong believer in the therapeutic process, Talia also understands how hard it can be. She feels honored to partner with her clients in committing, again and again, to themselves and their healing.
Her favorite clients are deep thinkers and feelers. Some may call them sensitive or overthinkers, but they are really just attuned to the pain within, around, and passed onto them. They love hard, care deeply, think critically, and live spiritually. They value individuality and community, but may struggle to strike a balance between showing up for themselves and others. They are eager to write a new chapter in their life story–one where they feel nurtured by their relationships, aligned with their values, and trusting of themselves.
Talia’s therapeutic approach is holistic and collaborative. She combines psychodynamic, narrative, and relational approaches with a curiosity and attentiveness to each client’s lived experience and inner wisdom. She believes that racism, queerphobia, and systemic oppression are root causes of mental health issues, and that we heal in relationships where our identities are honored and our liberation is valued. She is skilled at supporting clients as they peel back layers of shame, hurt, and heaviness in order to hear themselves more clearly, see themselves more fully, and feel more connected to their power and potential.
